:o

Tomorrow we are apparently doing something. I'm a little scared.

Also, of course I don't have school tomorrow. How stupid are you to even ask that question? >:I

Just a random emotional note.

When I try to talk to my mom and I'm interrupted.
When he makes a big deal about buying my mom something new.
When he buys extravagant gifts for her.
When I'm just chilling doing something and he breezes past with a question  he doesn't care the answer for.
How he is always so attentive to her.
but yet completely ignores most everything i do

I always kind of feel a little dead inside because of it. It makes me feel worthless. And he does barely enough to change it. It upsets me that he seems to care more about MK and John, and hell, even the neighbors kid more than he seems to care about me.
I feel like I'm just the spare. He has a son. He has a daughter. I'm just... back up in case something happens to my sister (Merlin forbid!).
I'm just here to make sure the house is in some kind of... upkept state. To make sure my mom doesn't have  an "empty nest" that everyone seems so worried about.

05/15/2011

Not much really happened. Just sat in front of the tv and played Sims 3 all day. Not all that exciting. : /
Though I did start some work on a cross stitch project. Just over half way finished with it. :D

How to make a Paper Candle Cover

Note: This is not an original craft. I originally found it here, made by the very creative alittlehut. However, when reading the tutorial posted, I noticed it wasn't very image-filled. It had wonderful images of the final project, but not many "in-progress" shots.

Since I got a new camera the other day, I figured I'd rectify this. So now, I have a complete tutorial of how I made one.

Materials:

  • Stock Paper (Letter Size, any color)
  • X-acto Knife, or Craft Knife (I've used an X-acto)
  • A Ruler
  • A Bone Folder (If you don't have one, the edge of a ruler works WONDERS)
  • a form of glue (You'll notice I used Mod Podge)
  • a pencil (optional)
  • an object you may cut the paper on (I used an old Christmas box lid.)
Step One.
Mark off a line a quarter of an inch from one end. On the opposite side, mark off a half inch. These will be used to hold the whole thing together. It doesn't matter which side you mark, long or short. It just depends on how big you want your candle cover to be.

Step Two. (OPTIONAL)
It was at this point where I measured how tall  my candle was (It was about 3.5 inches), so I drew a 3.5 inch line from the bottom of the page. Using this line, I drew all of my triangles above or on the line. Make sure when drawing your shapes, you bear in mind not to make them too close. Not only will it make a later step more difficult, it will also make it a bit more flimsy and chances are it will break at a later step.

Step Three.
Cut out all of your triangles (or shapes) with the X-acto knife, or craft knife. Make sure you aren't cutting on a surface you don't want cut. As stated in the materials list, I used an old Christmas box lid. I put the open end towards the table.
Be careful to make sure the paper is completely cut before you attempt to pull the triangle (or shape) off the paper. An incomplete cut can cause a paper tear and will not only weaken the stock paper, but also create an unsightly mark.

Step Four.
At this point you want to be a bit careful. Fold the paper in half parallel to the lines you made in step one. Do this again one each side of the crease you just made. Make sure to use your bone folder (or straight edge) to make a nice crease. Be very careful when going over the shapes you made, you don't want to tear it and ruin any shapes.

(this is what it will look like from the bottom/top after folding.)

Step Six.
Remember those lines you marked in step one? Now we're going to deal with them. Using the marks for the Half-inch, fold it in half against the edge so you have a quarter inch line. Make sure you are folding it in towards the inside of the folded square. Use your straight edge to create a decent crease.

Step Seven.
Using your glue, put a line on the fold you just made. Once you have the glue on the paper, attach both sides to close the square. Make sure you press hard to get it to properly stick.

Step Eight.
Once the glue has dried, put it around your candle. Make sure the flame has no chance of hitting the paper, we'd hate for your house to burn down due to this project, no?
